Roundup
Thomas Pynchon will be on The Simpsons.

Europe's Mars Express has detected water ice on Mars, while the American Mars rover Spirit might still be alive, or at least talking.

Matthew Yglesias is writing about sex and alternate history. Separately, of course.

The Invisible Adjunct features an essay on attirition in PhD programs.

Language Hat links to a blogger exploring Siberia.

Finally, J. Bradford Delong comments about the problems of illiberal democracy.

(Oh, and things aren't good for women in Afghanistan, either.)

You are the Bill Richardson of cyberspace.

Someday, I would like it said of me that I might still be alive, or at least talking.

Thomas Pynchon? On the Simpsons? I thought I wouldn't be surprised by a guest star after Tony Blair, but I guess I was wrong.

I suspect in a few years a commercial for The Simpsons will be like "Tonight at 8- Colonel Gaddafi, Pope John Paul II, and the -silicon-reconstructed personality of Kurt Cobain all guest star on a wild and wacky new Simpsons!"

I share in that surprise. Granted, he'll be wearing a bag over his head ...

The fact that this doesn't seem altogether implausible should frighten me, I think.

From Conrad:

You're T'Pol. You are very analytical and logical, as any good Vulcan is, but this makes you stick out like a sore thumb. You're cold and calculated, but there's a softer side to you that you tend to keep under wraps.

Plus T’Pol is kinda hot, prancing around a lot of the time in tight fitting bodysuits!!!

Finally, J. Bradford Delong comments about the problems of illiberal democracy.

Heh, heh, a liberal denouncing ‘illiberal government’ why am I less than excited!

Oh, and things aren't good for women in Afghanistan, either.

Sigh, no change here then.
