[FORUM] Should pride be a party or political, or both?

Five years ago, I blogged that Pride in Toronto was not a political event but rather Carnival, a space of a few days in the city of Toronto wherein normality was suspended, and that Pride's political radicalism was defunct. The Queers against Israel Apartheid controversy has changed my mind, at least inasmuch as Pride's political radicalism turns out to be more than a historical vestige for the people who organize it. (I'm not much for the other side, not least because of the homophobia present on the other: mayoral candidates Giorgio Mammolliti and Rob Ford, both opposed to QaIA's inclusion, have made fairly high-profile homophobic comments in the past, for instance.)

So. What do you think?
