[PHOTO] Toys of a lost future

A couple of months ago, I went with gmul295 to the Canadian Air and Space Museum, located at the former Canadian military base of Downsview Park in north-central Toronto. It was great fun, and I'll be sharing more photos from the museum in future days.

For now, I'd like to share some pictures of vintage space-related toys, many from Mattel, produced in the full flush of the space missions of the 1960s, when it seemed we'd be going to the stars shortly.

Here's the display case.

Here's a Mattel Uni-Tred Space Hauler, a battery-operated toy with a tread that lets it climb anything (like, say, a very rough lunar surface).

A Cape Canaveral playset, two suited figures, and a hardbound copy of Flash Gordon in the Caverns of Mongo.

Moon prospector, Apollo rocket, and booster rockets.

Mars probe lander and Dyna-Soar space plane, anyone?
